Young Basotho Designers Collection

The Young Basotho Designer’s Collection is an initiative by Aranda Textile Mills. It aims to empower young designers of Basotho origin and to give them a platform to showcase their blanket designs. The initiative facilitates the creative process where young and talented designers can contribute to the rich blanket wearing tradition that is woven into fabric of the Basotho culture. In order to keep this tradition alive, Aranda recognizes the need to enable authentic blanket designs by Basotho, for Basotho.

The Basotho Blanket has deep cultural and historical meaning to the people of Lesotho, a small landlocked country in Southern Africa. The blanket is woven into the culture and fabric of the Basotho nation. The blanket is used in all aspects of Basotho life, traditional ceremonies and celebrations from childbirth to weddings, As rites of passage to manhood and many more.
